April 23rd On-Farm Topworking (Grafting Existing Trees) Workshop: Hillsboro, VA
This workshop will teach you everything you need to know about how to take an existing tree and turn it into a fruiting tree that you'll actually want to eat! From historical contexts to magical creations, we'll cover a lot. We'll go for a walk in the young orchard to talk basic orchard care, and will visit some other species of trees to graft as well.
Bradford pear seedling is turned into an Asian pear
Red Delicious apple is turned into a delicious heirloom apple
Wild persimmon seedling is turned into an Asian persimmon
Bur Oak turned into an oak with sweet, edible acorns!
The workshop will be broken into 2 sessions of 10 people. Morning (9-12) and Afternoon (1-4).
With lots of practice under your belt from this workshop, you'll leave with the confidence to keep on topworking. I'll give you a knife to take home, and extra scion if you wish to change any seedling bradford pears to edible ones!
